Most states require individuals who engage in the practice of radiology procedures and x-ray exposures to apply for licensure. Each state evaluates the applicants fitness to practice and assures the basic requirements are met. In most cases applicants for licensure must be at least 18 years of age and meet the educational and testing requirements set by their home state law or administrative rule. Some states also required radiology certification through national certifying bodies such as the ARRT or ARDMS. Getting licensed is a necessary step to perform your job; however, before long, you may need to begin completing your CME credits and begin thinking about expanding your skills. Completing a radiology certificate in a specific subfield is a good way to gain valuable CE credit and to add to your resume with formal training in a subfield such as Mammography, MRI, or CT. If you want to place yourself ahead of the pack, you may want to begin thinking about pursing a radiology bachelors degree. A bachelor’s degree may enable you to expand into supervisory or training roles and may set the foundation for those who are aiming for a Radiologist Assistant title, which requires a radiology masters degree.
