How to Become a Radiologic Technologist in Nevada

In order to become a radiologic technologist, students need both a college degree and state licensure. Here are the basic steps one would need to take:

  1. Earn a high school diploma. This is the first step for most health care careers. To get a jump start on your studies, the Bureau of Labor Statistics recommends that students take classes in math and science, such as anatomy, biology, chemistry, physiology, and physics.
  2. Earn an associate degree. Earning an Associate of Applied Science degree is the typical requirement for entry-level radiologic technologist positions. Before enrolling, it’s important to make sure that your chosen program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
  3. Get licensed or certified in the state of Nevada. The Nevada state website can offer details on state-specific requirements, or check out the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) to find out more about certification.

Becoming a radiologic tech in Nevada starts with completing your radiology certificate or degree through a recognized radiology school in the state. You will then want to contact the Radiological Health Section staff at (775) 687-7550 to determine if your place of employment conducts procedures that will warrant special licensing.
