How to Become a Radiology Technologist in Oregon

Becoming a radiologic technologist requires both a postsecondary education and state licensure. This process varies depending on the specific position students wish to pursue. However, here are the basic steps to become a radiologic technologist in Oregon:

  1. Earn a high school diploma. As with most jobs in health care, this is the first step towards finding entry-level work. Taking classes in math and science, such as anatomy, biology, chemistry, physiology, and physics, can help students prepare for their studies in college.
  2. Earn an associate degree. Most entry-level radiologic technologists possess an Associate of Applied Science in the field. Before enrolling in any program, students should make sure it is properly accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
  3. Get licensed or certified in the state of Oregon. The Oregon state website can help you learn more about state-specific requirements. For details on the certification process, contact the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
