How to Become a Radiologic Technologist in Louisiana

If you are interested in becoming a radiologic technologist, here is a short guide for you. Note that this job requires a higher education as well as a license to practice.

  1. Graduate from high school. The first step to attain a radiologic technologist career is to earn a high school diploma. Before you earn that diploma, make sure to immerse yourself in science and math classes to prepare yourself for a radiology program.
  2. Earn an associate degree. In the state of Louisiana, you must enroll in and successfully complete a radiographic training program from a radiology school approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Be sure to check that your program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
  3. Get licensed in Louisiana. Only graduates from approved ARRT programs can take the ARRT exam, which is required for licensure by the state of Louisiana. You can contact the Radiological Society of Louisiana to learn more about the state licensure process.
